The creative community has grown online over the past decade, and there are many enticing online career paths, including vlogging. Vlogging has grown to be such a significant trend that business experts have attempted to wrap their heads around it!

Although they may have existed before the term ‘influencer’ became widely used, fashion vloggers can be categorised within this group. These online fashion experts can attest to the fact that, whether you view fashion vlogging as a side hustle or a full-time job, it requires a lot of time, perseverance, and work.

Halloween Fashion Show

On Monday 24 October, the London College of Contemporary Arts’ new Level 4 BA Fashion students hosted a Halloween Fashion Show.

Having been set a brief by Dawn Burton, Fashion Lecturer at LCCA, to develop sustainable Halloween-inspired outfits, students showcased their completed looks in The Garage at LCCA.

Students, Mariam Bobb and Marnei Williams, have kindly shared the details of their design processes.

Fashion Innovation Week

Fashion Innovation Week took place from November 14th – 18th. It was a rollercoaster of exceptional opportunities for students to immerse themselves in the creative industries and to work alongside industry practitioners and experts.

Focusing on natural and sustainable processes alongside the future of fashion, students have been able to dye natural fabrics with foraged materials, produce zero waste garments, examine vintage garments, explore luxury branding and PR, and learn about blockchains and the metaverse. Speakers such as Christie Lau shared resources for this new digital space to make entry into this world more accessible.

Why are environmentalists so concerned about fast fashion?

Most young consumers in 2022 love to buy clothes from retailers like H&M, Zara, and Forever 21. These are cheap, fast-fashion shops that are usually up to date with the latest fashion trends and allow young people to dress on trend without the high-fashion prices.

However, shopping at these stores does have its downside. Environmentalists are trying to bring awareness about the environmental impact credited to the fast fashion movement. As per a recent UN Environment Programme report, the fast fashion industry contributes to 8-10% of global carbon emissions and is the second biggest consumer of water.

But what is fast fashion in the first place? Why should you be aware of the ecological impact of fast fashion as an aspiring fashion designer and buyer?
